| The Hermit Crabs: Melanie Whittle: Guitar and vocals John Ferguson: Lead guitar Des McKenna : Bass guitar Tony McDonald : Drums Mel and Des were in a band called California Snow Story. Unfortunately, due to illness, this band was put on hold. Mel picked up the guitar and started writing songs. She and Des formed The Hermit Crabs in January 2003. Their first gig was at Tchai-Ovna tea house in the west end of Glasgow and in October 2003 they played at Cottiers Theatre with Camera Obscura. At this time Lee Thomson from Camera Obscura played drums for them. Since then there have been a few line up changes with Mel being the only permanent member. Des has rejoined the band recently after a sojourn in London. John Ferguson joined the band in late 2004 adding an extra sparkle on lead guitar and Tony McDonald joined on drums in August 2006. The Hermit Crabs have recorded 13 songs to date, the last three having had Francis MacDonald from Teenage Fanclub helping out with production. In September 2005, their song ‘Feel Good Factor’ was one of 15 winners in the Burnsong song writing competition in Scotland. |
